Victorville driveways take a beating that most of California doesn't deal with. You've got intense UV that bleaches and dries out concrete faster than coastal areas, blowing sand and dust that grinds into the surface, and oil stains from vehicles parked in heat that pushes petroleum deeper into the pores. By the time most homeowners think about cleaning their driveway, there's a year or two of buildup that a simple rinse isn't going to touch.
I did a job in Spring Valley Lake last spring — the homeowner was getting ready to sell and wanted the exterior dialed in. The driveway looked faded and stained, but structurally it was solid concrete in good shape. After a proper hot water pressure wash with a surface cleaner and a pre-treatment on the oil spots, it looked like a different property. The before and after was one of those jobs where I almost couldn't believe it was the same driveway.
What Pressure Washing Actually Does
A surface cleaner attachment — the round spinning head most professionals use — delivers consistent, overlapping pressure across the whole surface without leaving the stripe marks you get from a wand. Combined with a degreaser pre-treatment on oil stains, it pulls contaminants out of the concrete pores rather than just blasting the surface layer.
What it removes:
- Motor oil and fluid stains — with proper pre-treatment, most fresh-to-moderate stains come out significantly or completely
- Tire marks and rubber deposits
- Algae, mold, and mildew — common on shaded sections or under covered parking
- Desert dust, sand, and grime that's packed into the surface texture
- Bird droppings and organic debris
What It Can't Fix
Pressure washing removes surface contamination — it doesn't repair concrete. Cracks, spalling, pitting from freeze-thaw cycles, or deep oil stains that have been baking in for years may be permanent. I'll tell you what's cleanable and what isn't before I start, so there are no surprises.
A clean driveway and a sealed driveway are two different things. Cleaning removes what's on the surface. Sealing protects the concrete from absorbing the next round of stains. If your concrete is porous and you park vehicles on it regularly, sealing after a professional clean is worth considering.
How Often Should You Have It Done
For most Victorville homeowners, once a year is the right cadence — ideally in spring before the heat locks in the winter's accumulated grime. If you have multiple vehicles, a covered RV or boat, or a driveway that sees heavy foot traffic, twice a year makes sense. The longer you wait between cleanings, the more work each session takes and the more likely it is that some staining becomes permanent.
